Brought a Hellebore Home
I have a new flower plant at home and wanted to share it. It's called a Hellebore or Lenten Rose. I picked it up at Trader Joes, and it really is bringing Spring into our still gray Chicago apartment. This flower is one you don't see very often, especially at stores like TJ's. Spring flowers are coming in everywhere, but these are the daffodils, the tulips, and the hyacinths - which although bright and cheery, are predictable.
The Hellebore blooms in late winter or early Spring, and is a perennial. It is a houseplant right now, but in a couple of weeks it can be planted. It is hard to find a plant with great blooms that does well indoors and out and for darker rooms or climates, this plant actually likes the shade. It is a perennial, so it will come back each year and bloom for 8-12 weeks during this time between winter and spring. When not in bloom, it has year round foliage.
The bloom itself is lovely and a little complex, which I adore. It can have many colors ranging from white to dark wine magenta, so it can fit into many decor schemes. Right now, it's in our living room, or on the bedside table could also be a way to cheer up the bedroom and you. I think they still have some at TJ's or your local garden store.
